MIAMI, Dec. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Not surprisingly, hotel rates in Miami are rising strongly for Art Basel, North America's biggest art show. According to a survey conducted by MiamiHotels.org, some hotels close to the Florida host site are even tripling their rates for this upcoming weekend.
In South Beach, where Art Basel takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center, about 80 percent of hotels are sold out for the weekend dates of December 7th to December 10th. Those establishments still offering rooms are charging, on average, 136 percent more compared to regular rates. Some hotels are hiking up their rates even more significantly than that, though.
One such example is the Kimpton Surfcomber Hotel. This boutique accommodation located in the heart of South Beach is charging $662 for a deluxe room during Art Basel. That price tag represents an increase of 186 percent compared to normal rates. Another case in point is the Dorchester Hotel. A three-star hotel located close to the beach, it is charging $359 for a standard double room over the Art Basel weekend. That's an increase of more than 200 percent over the usual cost.
In South Beach, Art Basel attendees will currently have to spend around $300 per night for the cheapest available room in a hotel rated at least three stars. Therefore, they can expect to pay almost $1,000 for the full weekend, taxes included. Only slightly less expensive is downtown Miami. There an overnight guest could find a room for $250 per night. Budget travelers can check in and around Miami International Airport or in North Beach, where rooms are still available for around $150 nightly.
