Survivor Is Empowering Women, Promoting Perseverance & Supporting Charity With New Story-Inspired Jewelry Line

ITHACA, N.Y., Dec. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Survivor, Melissa Matthews, is empowering women, promoting perseverance, and supporting charities through her new, story-inspired Meljourne Women jewelry line. Celebrating today's women who have transformed personal tragedies into positive, purpose-driven missions, Meljourne Women consists of individual jewelry collections that symbolically convey these powerful, real-life journeys through a unique blend of meaningful design and dual finishes. A portion of the proceeds from each Meljourne Woman's collection will be donated to a designated charity also working to help people overcome life's adversities.

"The Meljourne Women endeavor has been many years in the making," explains Matthews. On Dec. 18, 2003, Matthews sustained permanent, life-altering injuries to her legs, left arm, and head in a devastating car accident. Her road to recovery has included 14 surgical procedures, learning how to walk again, and overcoming numerous language and processing issues. "My journey has definitely been rocked by pain, disabilities, discrimination, poverty, and isolation," says Matthews. "It has also been a journey full of hope, determination, resilience, and faith." Matthews' conviction to turn her own pain into purpose has been the catalyst for Meljourne Women. As such, the word meljourne ? a combination of Melissa's Journey ? means to transform personal tragedy into a positive, purpose-driven mission.

Aspiring to become one of the most inspirational start-ups of 2017, Meljourne Women launched its debut collection this holiday season. Fittingly entitled Perseverance - Personified, "The Melissa Necklace" and "The Melissa Bracelet" featured in this first collection artistically represents Matthews' tragedy-to-triumph journey. 10 percent of the net profit from the sales of Matthews collection will be donated to charity: Strong Memorial Hospital/The University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York and Calm Waters Center for Children and Families in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma will each receive 5 percent of the proceeds for the next year.

"A lot of thought and vetting went into selecting my two charity beneficiaries," explains Matthews. "Throughout my journey, some of my greatest challenges were in trying to process and reconcile the various physical and emotional aspects of my accident." Matthews continues, "With those experiences in mind, I selected Strong Memorial Hospital/URMC because it was their dedication to delivering 'Medicine of the Highest Order' that saved my life that fateful night in 2003. I selected Calm Waters because their free grief support services over the past 25 years have helped more than 34,000 individuals overcome the mental grief and anguish from their tragedies and adversities. Strong Memorial Hospital/The University of Rochester Medical Center and Calm Waters Center for Children and Families are two amazing nonprofit organizations that deserve our collective support!"

Meljourne Women's dedication to "empowering women, promoting perseverance, and supporting charity" is a powerful message that is especially relevant and timely in our world today. To further this purpose-driven mission, Meljourne Women is currently searching for new women to celebrate in future collections. Each selected woman will receive: (1) a necklace and bracelet set custom designed to artistically represent her tragedy-to-triumph journey; (2) 5 percent of the net profit from the online and boutique sales of her collection; (3) the publication and active promotion of her story on Meljourne Women's website and social media; (4) a personalized press kit sent to her local/regional media outlets; and (5) a matching 5 percent donation for an approved charity of her choice.
