California Attorney General Xavier Becerra at National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker This Wednesday, 10 a.m.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In a New York Times profile the Sunday after Thanksgiving, California's Attorney General Xavier Becerra said the philosophy of the Democratic Party leaders should be, "If you work hard and play by the rules, we've got your back." Becerra doesn't believe the Trump Administration has been following the rules and since becoming Attorney General he's been pushing back against the White House. California has filed roughly two dozen lawsuits challenging the Trump Administration's efforts to make changes that affect immigrant rights, civil rights, environmental standards and consumer protections. Becerra will discuss these legal actions and other issues at a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker news conference at 10 a.m., Wed., Dec. 6 in the club's First Amendment Lounge.

Prior to being nominated as California's Attorney General by Gov. Jerry Brown late last year, Becerra served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 24 years, 10 of those years he was in the House leadership. He also was the first Latino to serve on the Ways & Means Committee.
The son of immigrants, Becerra attended Stanford University for both his undergraduate and law school education. He worked as a Deputy Attorney for the State of California and was elected to the State Assembly before running for Congress.
