Calgary Philanthropist Makes Major Gift to Hull Services

CALGARY, Nov. 27, 2017 /CNW/ - Leslie Bissett of Calgary has made a  gift of $5 million to Hull Services to construct a new building at the organization's main campus. Replacing an existing facility it will be the new site for the Preadolescent Treatment Program (PTP).

"I have volunteered for PTP at Hull Services for a number of years now and I have been able to see firsthand the need for this program and the incredible effort the staff carry out every day to support traumatized children from our community," said Bissett. "These are Calgary's children and I am grateful to have the opportunity to contribute to an organization that is serving the needs of Calgary's most at-risk children today and for generations to come."

PTP?a trauma informed residential treatment program serving children between six to 12 years?offers a predictable, nurturing environment. The program, using leading edge treatment, is designed to increase the ability of children who have been traumatized due to abuse, neglect, and other adverse experiences, to move from a state of high stress and anxiety to a calmer, more functional existence, where they can then learn and acquire new skills to allow them to improve connections to family, communities and culture.

"This generous gift elevates PTP to yet another level of excellence and stands out as an example of the very best of what a private citizen with genuine concern and philanthropic intent can achieve in our community," said George Ghitan, Executive Director, Hull Services.

Adding, "I commend Mrs. Bissett for her vision and commitment to helping Calgary's high-risk children. Children that deserve the same opportunity as any of us, to grow up and become healthy and productive members of our community."

A groundbreaking for the PTP building will take place in spring, 2018.
