Government of Canada congratulates Mishkeegogamang Ojibway First Nation on new six-unit housing project
OTTAWA, Nov. 22, 2017 /CNW/ - All Canadians should have the security of a safe and healthy home. The Government of Canada is making historic investments toward improving housing conditions in First Nation communities, reducing overcrowding and increasing health and safety.
The Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, today congratulated Mishkeegogamang Ojibway First Nation on its new six-unit housing complex. The new homes were built ahead of schedule and will contribute to healthier lives for their residents.
Mishkeegogamang Ojibway First Nation is one of 56 First Nation communities in Ontario who are benefitting from new housing investments through Budget 2016.

Mishkeegogamang First Nation is located approximately 310 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and has an on-reserve population of approximately 1,300.
Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada provided $792,000 for the construction of the six-unit housing complex and $150,000 for servicing the lots. The First Nation contributed approximately $150,000 for the project.
The new houses are made with energy-efficient technologies and mould- and fire-resistant materials, which will improve fire safety and reduce annual maintenance and operating expenses for residents.
