Public Engagement on Education Assessment in Ontario
Public Engagements Will Help Shape Future of Student Assessment
TORONTO, Nov. 20, 2017 /CNW/ - Parents, educators, students, school system leaders and communities are invited to provide advice as part of a review of student assessment practices.
As part of the Ministry of Education's commitment to refresh the province's curriculum, a six month independent review of assessment and reporting is being conducted with a focus on excellence, equity, well-being and confidence in Ontario's publicly funded education system.
Led by Dr. Carol Campbell and the Premier's six Education Advisors, a series of online and public consultations will guide the modernization of student assessment and reporting tools and strategies.
"We've learned a lot since Ontario started large scale assessment 20 years ago," says Dr. Campbell. "It's time to have a discussion on what we can do to improve student learning and remain a global leader in public education."
The public engagement will inform recommendations on the future of assessment and reporting practices in Ontario and will take place from November 22 to December 12. The advisors will engage with as many Ontarians as possible, including individuals from the Francophone and Indigenous communities, to understand their diverse experiences and perspectives.
