Streaming Media Platform Kocowa Celebrates K-Pop in Holiday Program Line-Up

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Korean entertainment streaming platform Kocowa announced today that it will celebrate K-Pop content in its November program line-up. Launched in the U.S. this summer, Kocowa is a destination to watch popular Korean TV programs in English, including dramas, variety shows and K-Pop shows. Recognizing the growing fan base for K-Pop in the U.S., Kocowa plans to increase the number of Korean music programs as part of the programming strategy.

"K-Pop is one of Korea's most successful export products.  Korean musicians have become a cultural force on the world stage. The music genre captures the lifestyle of Korea's youth. It is a perfect fit for the Kocowa platform, as we bring the biggest contemporary entertainment Korean stars, including G-Dragon, to U.S. screens," said Jeongsik Kim, CEO of Kocowa. "K-Pop content has become a key pillar of our programming strategy to cater to the increasing demand for K-pop shows."

This Thanksgiving (November 23rd at 12 am EST), Kocowa subscribers in North and South America can experience how the internationally recognized rapper and singer-songwriter G-Dragon wowed audiences during his 2017 World Tour Act III, M.O.T.T.E. concert with exclusive footage from his Seoul concert. The music program will be available with English, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese translations. According to Billboard, G-Dragon's 2017 World Tour is the largest concert tour ever conducted by a Korean solo artist. During his tour stops in the U.S., G-Dragon mesmerized millions of U.S. music fans with his chart-topping songs.

In addition, Kocowa started streaming Weekly Idol in September, one of the most popular K-Pop programs in Korea. The weekly program invites pop groups as guests. Past guests included Billboard award winner BTS, influential boy band Big Bang and one of Asia's biggest girl groups Girls' Generation (SNSD). Many of these bands are also appearing on Show! Champion, a weekly music show hosted by comedian Kim Shin-young, which is also available exclusively on Kocowa. The streaming media platform continues to bring the super stars of Korean pop music to U.S. screens with The Unit: Idol Rebooting Project, hosted by Rain, a well-known, prolific Korean music artist.

Along with the K-Pop shows, Kocowa will also debut a slate of dramas and variety shows starring some of Korea's most popular entertainers in November. New dramas include Two Cops, She's Not a Robot?!, Money Flower, Judge vs. Judge, and more. Part of the variety show programming are Yo-! Welcome to Korea and Little Too Crazy.

"I believe K-pop contents is the power that fuels Kocowa's platform and our engagement with Kocowa fans on social channels, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter. Based on viewer data, we increased the number of our TV programs starring K-pop singers, such as WANNACITY, Weekly Idol, and It's Dangerous Beyond the Blankets, as part of our strategy," added Jeongsik Kim, CEO of Kocowa.

Part of Kocowa's line-up of K-dramas that feature K-pop stars are While You were Sleeping with Suzy, Man Who Sets the Table with SNSD's Soo-Young, and the hit series School 2017 with Gugudan Kim Se-Jeong.

Kocowa was launched by KCP, LLC, a joint venture between the three largest Korean broadcasters (KBS, MBC and SBS). It is estimated that there are 35 million K-Pop and K-Wave fans globally; 8 million of whom are based in the U.S.
