Retail Industry Leaders Association Urges Congress to Pass Tax Reform that Benefits American Retailers and Consumers

ARLINGTON, Va., Nov. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), the trade association for America's most recognized and innovative retail brands, discussed the need for a much-needed overhaul to America's current tax code. Despite supporting 42 million American jobs and being a top economic driver, America's retailers pay one of the highest effective tax rates in the nation. RILA and the retail community are urging Congress to pass tax reform that lowers rates for businesses and American families.

"America's current tax code is broken," said Brian Dodge, executive vice president of RILA. "Retailers pay one of the highest effective corporate tax rates among all industries which is why RILA and our members have been vocal in supporting tax reform that lowers rates not only for retailers but the customers they serve each day. We are strongly encouraged by the House and Senate proposals to reduce taxes on the middle class and lower the corporate tax rate. Tax reform that works for American businesses and families is vital to helping our economy grow.

"As we approach the holiday shopping season, retailers are excited to see reforms that will help them invest in their business and their workforce and give consumers a boost. We look forward to continuing our work with Congress and the Administration to pass reform that works for retail, our customers and the economy."

RILA believes this is an unprecedented opportunity to pass a tax reform plan that benefits both businesses and consumers by creating a fairer and more dynamic economy for all Americans.
