Minister Melanie Joly Announces Three Appointments to the Board of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation
New members will support the work Canada's leading organization dedicated to the elimination of racism
GATINEAU, QC, Nov. 16, 2017 /CNW/ - The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced the appointment of three new part-time members to the board of directors of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF).
? Balpreet Singh Boparai (Ontario), three-year term effective December 11, 2017
Mr. Boparai has been legal counsel and spokesperson for the World Sikh Organization of Canada since 2009. In that capacity, he has participated in several CRRF projects and is a regular speaker on issues of identity and Canadian values. He is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.
? Orlando Bowen (Ontario), three-year term effective December 15, 2017
Mr. Bowen is a motivational speaker and physical and mental trainer. As the founder and executive director of the youth leadership organization One Voice One Team, he works closely with young people to help them develop projects in their communities. He has a Master of Science degree in information technology management.
? Anne-Marie Pham (Alberta), four-year term effective December 18, 2017
Ms. Pham has worked with diverse communities and workplaces for more than 20 years. She has a master's degree in public administration and is currently Manager of Client Services at the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion.
These appointments are the result of the Government of Canada's open, transparent and merit-based selection process.
The CFFR is Canada's leading agency dedicated to the elimination of racism and all forms of racial discrimination in Canadian society. It coordinates and cooperates with all sectors of society, and develops partnerships with relevant agencies and organizations at the local, provincial, territorial and national levels.

The CRRF's board of directors consists of a chairperson and up to 11 additional members appointed by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister. The executive director, who is appointed by the Governor in Council, also serves as chief executive officer and an ex-officio member of the board.
In 2016, the Government of Canada adopted a new approach to Governor in Council appointments. This approach respects gender parity and is supported by an open, transparent and merit-based selection process: one that will result in the recommendation of exceptionally competent candidates who truly reflect Canada's diversity.
This new approach requires a selection process for the majority of full- and part-time positions.
