New Multifunctional Cultural Space to Highlight Chéticamp's Acadian Arts and Culture
Government of Canada invests $478,500 in the Conseil des arts de Chéticamp
CHÉTICAMP, NS, Nov. 15, 2017 /CNW/ - Rodger Cuzner, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour and Member of Parliament (Cape Breton?Canso), today announced $478,500 in funding for the Conseil des arts de Chéticamp to help create a multifunctional cultural space in Chéticamp. Mr. Cuzner made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
This funding will support the creation of a new art gallery, an exterior theatre and a water puppet theatre, which will be incorporated into a new multifunctional cultural space in partnership with the adjacent NDA School in Chéticamp.
This support is provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund of the Department of Canadian Heritage. In Budget 2016, the Government of Canada dedicated $168.2 million to the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund over two years. This was followed by an additional $300 million for the fund over 10 years in this year's budget.

The Conseil des arts de Chéticamp was founded in 1999. Its mission is to develop the French language and preserve the rich heritage of expression in the Chéticamp region.
Le Conseil des arts de Chéticamp manages the Place des arts Père-Anselme-Chiasson, which includes a state-of-the-art 363-seat auditorium, a gallery, rehearsal rooms and a scenic workshop.
Since January 2000, the Conseil des arts has produced or assisted in the production of 1,311 shows with more than 222,000 viewers.
The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund plays a key role in improving physical conditions for artistic creativity and arts presentation or exhibition. It is also designed to increase access for Canadians to performing, visual and media arts, and to museum collections and heritage displays.
