Media Advisory - Louis Riel Day Provincial Ceremony at Queen's Park


TORONTO, Nov. 15, 2017 /CNW/ - Louis Riel was the great Métis leader and Father of Confederation executed by the Canadian government on November 16, 1885, for leading the Northwest Resistance in defense of Métis rights. Louis Riel Day is held annually on November 16 to commemorate Riel, celebrate Métis culture and recognize Métis contributions to Canada. Métis communities across Ontario will be holding Louis Riel Day events and the provincial Louis Riel Day ceremony is taking place at Queen's Park starting at 12:00 noon. The ceremony will take place at the ceremonial flag pole located to the West of the front steps of the Legislative Building. Highlights of the ceremony will include:
