Gender Lens Investing Assets Rise 41% In Past Year
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Gender Lens Investing (GLI) assets continue to grow strongly, rising 41% to $910 million in the 12 months ended June 30, 2017, according to an analysis by Veris Wealth Partners in collaboration with Suzanne Biegel of Catalyst At Large.
The number of mandated publicly traded GLI strategies has been growing steadily over the past five years and now totals 22, the analysis found. An average of four strategies per year were brought to market between 2013 and 2017. Between 1993 to 2012, there were only five strategies.
Gender Lens Investing mobilizes capital to improve the condition of women and girls worldwide. The underlying premise is that when women are fully empowered by having access to capital and opportunity, our economy and society flourish.
"Gender Lens Investing has become one of the most exciting and dynamic areas of investing," said Patricia Farrar-Rivas, CEO and Founding Principal of Veris Wealth Partners. "The growth in assets under management is a powerful signal that investors want more options to put capital to work for the benefit of women and girls to create a thriving economy and equitable world for everyone."
Among the other key findings in the analysis:
The GLI strategies that have attracted the most capital are the Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) SHE from State Street Advisors with $329 million, and Global Women's Index Fund from Pax Ellevate with $146 million.
The investment vehicles extend across all asset classes and include a variety of structures. There are six mutual funds, one ETF, one Exchange Traded Note (ETN), one certificate of deposit, one limited partnership hedge fund, and 12 Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs).
Eighteen of the 22 strategies target U.S. investors. The non-U.S. options include funds in Canada, Nigeria and two in Europe.
