READOUT: Minister McKenna co-Chairs carbon pricing gathering; champions pollution pricing as key measure to fight climate change

BONN, Germany, Nov. 13, 2017 /CNW/ - Launched during the 2015 Paris climate talks, the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition brings together 30 governments and more than 140 businesses to advocate pricing carbon emissions. To prevent the global average temperature from rising by more than 2.0 degrees Celsius?and strive for below 1.5 degrees Celsius?the world needs to reduce emissions dramatically.

Today, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, took part in a Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition event at the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change. She co-chaired the gathering of national and subnational government officials, joined by business leaders and environmental stakeholders.

Canada and the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition will continue to urge countries, subnationals, and businesses to price carbon as an important way to reduce emissions and spark innovation and economic growth. Canada will continue taking an active approach, both domestically and internationally, to champion carbon pricing as a key policy instrument to combat climate change.
