Spirits Canada Welcomes Progress Made in Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Negotiations in Viet Nam
TORONTO, Nov. 10, 2017 /CNW/ - Spirits Canada welcomes the significant progress made in Da Nang Viet Nam by the 11 Members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) to reach a modern and progressive multilateral trade liberalization agreement.
International Trade Ministers from Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Viet Nam, meeting in advance of the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation summit have agreed on the core elements of an Agreement that would liberalize trade amongst its members.
"While we understand difficult negotiations on a number of sensitive issues remain, we are optimistic that with good will and hard work trade negotiators will bridge the remaining gaps so that high-value Canadian agri-food exporters, including Canadian Spirits manufacturers, will soon be able to benefit from important new market access opportunities", said Jan Westcott, President & CEO of Spirits Canada.
Made from locally-grown barley, corn, rye and wheat, Canadian Whisky and other Canadian Spirits are amongst the most highly added-value Canadian exports, supporting local farmers, providing jobs to Canadians across the country, and creating wealth for Canada.
"It is critical for the future prosperity of our country and for hard-working Canadians that Canada continues to aggressively pursue real market access improvements for our goods and series abroad", said Mr. Westcott.
