New Campaign Encourages Millennials To Take Part In A Moment Of Social Silence On Twitter and Facebook This Remembrance Day

New Campaign Encourages Millennials To Take Part In A Moment Of Social Silence On Twitter and Facebook This Remembrance Day

Digital activation aims to silence social media feeds through automated posts

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 10, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Since 1918, people everywhere have honoured fallen soldiers with a moment of silence on Remembrance Day. Creative Agency, Camp Pacific, found that between smartphones and social feeds, it is harder than ever for people to find a quiet moment to pay their respects. Through The Online Moment of Silence, campaign participants can sign up online to automatically share a silent post on Remembrance Day at 11 am, disrupting social feeds with ?silence? in honour of the men and women who have lost their lives to conflict.

?Without the help of formal events or assemblies, many young people forget to pay their respects with a moment of silence on Remembrance Day at 11 am,? said Greg Kietlyka, copywriter at Camp Pacific. ?We wanted to ensure that anyone checking their feeds at this time was reminded to take a moment to remember those who have lost their lives to conflict, past and present.?

When a user signs up, they link their Facebook and Twitter account to post a silent image on their behalf at 11 am in their time zone. The post shows up as a blank image with the hashtag #ShareYourSilence, dominating social feeds with an empty, white image meant to symbolize silence.

With enough participation, the activation will effectively silence Facebook and Twitter feeds alongside the traditional moment of silence, allowing Canadians to show their support for Remembrance Day in a new and relevant way.

The campaign has received widespread support from organizations all over the country including Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, The Royal Canadian Legion/BC Yukon Command & Saskatchewan Command, The WE Movement, The Vimy Foundation and many more.
