Otterbein University Thanks Veterans and Active Troops with Acts of Kindness

WESTERVILLE, Ohio, Nov. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Otterbein University took the opportunity to thank veterans and active service members before its Homecoming game on Sept. 16 with a Salute to Kindness. Fans in the stands joined a 160-singer strong choir leading the 2,400-seat stadium in singing America the Beautiful, and all Homecoming attendees are asked to write notes of support to send to active duty service men and women and veterans. The note writing campaign continued at the national Girl Scout convention in downtown Columbus and other events.

Now Otterbein is sharing the results of its Salute to Kindness to honor Veterans Day. As our nation takes a moment to reflect and consider the sacrifice and commitment made by our veterans and active service members, Otterbein invites you to share this video message as a small but meaningful token of appreciation with them or in their honor. The video is online at https://youtu.be/IRFtU020FEM. Photos from the Salute to Kindness can be seen at https://www.flickr.com/photos/otterbein/albums/72157689234563295.

Please post a link to this video on your social media or share it through your email starting on Friday, Nov. 10. Share your own notes of appreciation at #OtterbeinKindness.

Additionally, Otterbein is distributing the more than 700 notes of thanks it has collected. Some were distributed at the Central Ohio Veterans Stand Down on Oct. 17; 200 will be distributed at the Westerville Veterans Breakfast; and others will be given to patients at the Chalmers P. Wylie VA Ambulatory Care Center and members of other veterans groups.

The Salute to Kindness was organized by Otterbein University as part of its Kindness Matters initiative. Working as a partner with Kind Columbus at The Columbus Foundation, Otterbein is proud to help support this effort to cultivate kindness in the region.

Otterbein University is recognized as a "Best Colleges for Veterans" by U.S. News and World Report and a "Military Friendly School" by G.I. Jobs magazine. Otterbein is proud to participate in the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill Yellow Ribbon Program; visit www.otterbein.edu/veterans.
