Team Roselle 345 Wins Big in the Roselle Board of Education Race

ROSELLE, N.J., Nov. 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Team Roselle 345 takes all three Board of Education seats in the Borough of Roselle! The winners are Archange Antoine (1,435 votes), Keyanna Lovett (1,397 votes) and Jonathan Davis (1,280 votes). The main issue in this election was the tax increase that the Mind & Body Project would cause. Well, residents responded with a resounding "NO" to Team Holley and his Board of Education candidates. Team Roselle 345 campaign manager said, "Archange, Keyanna, and Johnny won because they uniquely understood and focused on the core concerns of the community. They worked tirelessly throughout this campaign to share their vision for the future of education in Roselle, which starts with responsible leaders beholden to no one but the residents of the Borough. This is not just a win for Team 345, it was a win for Roselle."

The proposed Mind Body Complex consists of a 45,000-square-foot community center with a pool, fitness center, gym with a full-size basketball court, media center, teen center, locker rooms, cafeteria and an Early Childhood Learning Center with Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. The problem with the project is the cost. The Borough of Roselle residents are struggling to pay their already high taxes and they are in the middle of a foreclosure crisis. The average property taxes are $9867.16 and the median household income is around $43,000, of which 23% goes directly to pay property taxes. The Mind & Body project and its $59 million price tag will make Roselle property taxes go up even more. On November 7, 2017, Roselle residents said "NO" to the project and anyone associated with it.

Anti-Mind & Body project council candidates were also big winners in the general election. Cynthia Johnson was officially elected as the Third Ward Councilwoman and Denise Wilkerson won the First Ward council seat. Both candidates were outspoken about the negative impact the project would have on Roselle residents' taxes.

Anthony Esposito, a private tax-paying resident of Roselle, still has an ongoing lawsuit against the Borough of Roselle, Roselle Board of Education (RBOE), County of Union, and Union County Improvement Authority (UCIA) to prevent the defendants from moving forward on the Mind and Body Complex project in Roselle. The lawsuit was filed in an Amended Verified Complaint against the defendants by the LAW OFFICE OF MICHAEL S. DORANL.L.C. on September 21, 2017 on behalf of Anthony Esposito. A judge is expected to rule on this case later this month.
