Correctional Service Canada announces the recipient of this year's National Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award
OTTAWA, Nov. 8, 2017 /CNW/ - Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is pleased to announce that Kimberly Mann from Ottawa, Ontario is this year's recipient of the 19th annual National Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award.
Implemented in 1999 to honour the late Ron Wiebe, a former CSC warden committed to restorative justice principles, this special award is presented every year to a Canadian individual who has demonstrated ongoing leadership in promoting justice and peace through restorative justice practices.
This year's recipient is a true champion for restorative justice. She has been actively involved in practising and promoting restorative justice for nearly 20 years as a caseworker, educator, volunteer, and in her current roles as Co-Chair of the Ottawa Restorative Justice Network and Executive Director of the Collaborative Justice Program: Restorative Justice Ottawa.
Under her direction, the Collaborative Justice Program is recognized in Canada as a unique program that has significantly advanced restorative justice theories and practices by addressing cases of serious crime, once believed to be beyond the reach of restorative justice interventions.
Kimberly is known for her compassion, dedication and humility. Through her exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, Kimberly has inspired greater understanding and support for restorative approaches as a way to humanize justice. Her knowledge and expertise have contributed to provincial, national and international restorative justice initiatives. Moreover, her work has had an impact on countless offenders, victims and communities.
Kimberly will be formally presented with this year's National Ron Wiebe Restorative Justice Award during the Restorative Justice in Canada Gala of the National Restorative Justice Symposium in Ottawa on November 20, 2017.
