OTTAWA, Nov. 3, 2017 /CNW/ - Sherry Romanado, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, and Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, join Canadian youth and the Government of Canada delegation in remembering the Battle of Passchendaele on November 6, 2017. The event serves to commemorate Canada's participation in the Battle of Passchendaele, launch Veterans' Week and meet those who are part of the Canadian delegation as they prepare to embark on their journey to mark the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele in Belgium.

During the event, participants will be invited to write a message of remembrance to form part of an original sculpture created by Kitchener-based blacksmith Sandra Dunn that will travel to Belgium to be part of events marking the Passchendaele centennial.

The delegation travelling to commemorative sites in Belgium will pay tribute not only to our brave Canadian Corps soldiers who fought at Passchendaele, but also to all those who served in the First World War. Sherry Romanado, Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of Veterans Affairs and the Associate Minister of National Defence, will lead the delegation to Belgium.
