WOODBRIDGE, N.J., Nov. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa joined hundreds of New Jersey Teamsters and members from other unions at a rally to support of Ambassador Phil Murphy for governor. Following the rally, union members volunteered to get out the vote for the campaign during the final weekend before Election Day on Nov. 7.

Speaking at the rally, Hoffa stressed the importance of taking New Jersey in a new direction following two terms under Gov. Chris Christie that saw the state rank near the bottom in job and economic growth.

"Phil Murphy is the right man for the job. He understands what it's like to grow up in a working class family and has a strong history of fighting on behalf of workers," Hoffa said. "We've all had enough of Chris Christie and his anti-worker policies. New Jersey needs a governor that is going to fully staff the Department of Labor so that it has the resources to enforce the laws against companies that attack working men and women."

Fred Potter, President of Teamsters Local 469 in Hazlet, N.J. and International Vice President of the union, highlighted Murphy's commitment to labor unions in New Jersey.

"There is no question that Phil Murphy supports labor," Potter said. "He is the kind of candidate that the Teamsters need to stand up to special interests and corporations that are determined to undermine and weaken workers' rights in our state.

Murphy committed to supporting labor by ensuring that the issues that impact the middle class and union members are addressed under his administration.

"We must make sure we get back to doing things like cracking the back of misclassification, respecting prevailing wage, honoring project labor agreements and having the backs of our union brothers and sisters," Murphy said. "It is the door through which so many in NJ walked into the middle class ? we will hold that door open. I promise you that.
