SC Johnson Aids Pets Waiting for New Forever Home

RACINE, Wis., Nov. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SC Johnson today announced the donation of $50,000 to support the construction of the Wisconsin Humane Society's (WHS) new animal shelter. The new building will allow WHS to provide a safe and healthy environment for animals awaiting adoption. The SC Johnson donation also marks the start of WHS's public capital-raising campaign to build the shelter.

Today's donation was made in part because of WHS's pledge that it does not euthanize animals because of lack of space or time in the shelter. All animals in its adoption program can stay as long as it takes to find a new home.

"SC Johnson has a long history of support and belief in animal welfare programs around the world," said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President ? Global Corporate Affairs, Communication & Sustainability at SC Johnson. "For many, pets become members of the family, so we're especially happy to support this local project. It will improve the welfare of animals in our community, as well as offer a convenient location to better serve those wanting to adopt a pet."

The new 16,000-square-foot animal care center will be more than twice the size of the current WHS facility. The new building will include an expanded area to better manage disease control and sheltering of animals, as well as provide designated veterinary space and a multipurpose community room. The shelter will be built on the northeast corner of 16th Street and 90th Street in Mount Pleasant.

"We're grateful to partner with SC Johnson on a project that will have such a positive community impact," said Anne Reed, President and CEO of WHS. "We believe the new shelter will be a community destination, and a place where more Racine County residents can volunteer and make a difference for animals in need."

The estimated cost of the project is $5.4 million. When WHS has raised approximately 85 percent of the funds needed, construction will begin. After breaking ground on the site, construction is estimated to be completed in nine months.
