ENA Applauds Senate on Passage of Bill to Allow Use of Standing Orders by Emergency Medical Services


DES PLAINES, Ill., Oct. 25, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Emergency Nurses Association applauds the Senate for passing the Protecting Patient Access to Emergency Medications Act yesterday. H.R. 304 will ensure emergency medical services (EMS) agencies can continue to use standing orders to administer controlled substances when treating patients who require emergency care. Without passage of H.R. 304, EMS practitioners may lose the ability to administer life-saving medications to treat a medical emergency.

This important bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Richard Hudson and in the Senate by Sen. Bill Cassidy. The bill now must be sent back to the House for approval before it goes to President Trump for his signature.
