Pet Rescue Advocate David York to Open Museum of Dog in the Berkshires

NORTH ADAMS, Mass., Oct. 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- A museum dedicated to dogs is opening in the Berkshires just blocks from the country's largest contemporary art museum, MASS MoCA. At the east entrance to downtown North Adams, Museum of Dog (M.O.D) will feature a private collection of dog inspired paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and accessories. The 8,000 square-foot historic space, at the merging point of Union Street and the Mohawk Trail, formerly housed Quinn's Wallpaper & Paint. The museum will feature over 180 pieces from more than 50 notable artists ranging from William Wegman photographs to Mary Engel "Watch Dog" sculptures and rare dog collars dating back to the 1800s.

"I'm excited to bring this vision to life, just blocks from MASS MoCA and downtown North Adams. The museum will recognize dogs and the joy they bring to our lives," said owner and founder David York. "Museum of Dog is the first of its kind in Massachusetts and I'm excited to share it with the thousands of visitors from around the world."

Tanglewood, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, The Clark Institute, Williams College and Jacob's Pillow are all nearby and as a seasoned real estate investor, York saw the opportunity to both revitalize a great building and showcase his collection of art.
