Trailcon delivers trifecta of donations

BRAMPTON, Ontario, Oct. 19, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Trailcon Leasing Inc. continues to support and encourage the next generation of leaders in the trucking industry. Recently, the company helped three community colleges enhance their training programs through a series of donations.

Mohawk College City School trailer donation
Trailcon has donated a 53-foot Tridem trailer to Hamilton-based Mohawk College's City School Program. Having launched earlier this month, the City School mobile classroom will travel across Ontario to bring trades training programs directly to various community hubs. City School offers tuition-free college credit courses and workshops taught by Mohawk faculty and staff, to put a college education within reach of everyone in the community.

?Trailcon has always been dedicated to supporting future generations who choose to work in the transportation industry,? says Mike Krell, vice-president, sales & marketing, Trailcon Leasing. ?By donating this trailer, we are providing reliable equipment to support new and innovative education programs and encouraging youth to consider our industry as a promising career path.? Krell points out that Trailcon also offers apprenticeship opportunities for aspiring trailer technicians.

Conestoga College scholarship
For the seventh consecutive year, Trailcon has awarded the Trailcon Leasing Trailer Service Technician Scholarship to a deserving student in the Truck Trailer Service Trade program at Conestoga College, Kitchener, ON. The program provides students with a theoretical knowledge of all aspects of the truck trailer service trade, along with the practical training necessary to complement the on-the-job training with an employer. This year's recipient was Ian Taylor. "To be recognized by an industry leader like Trailcon Leasing gives me the confidence I have a bright future in the trucking industry," says Taylor.

?Trailcon believes strongly in supporting the workforce of the future,? said Don Andrews, Trailcon's director of operations, who presented the award to Taylor. ?It is through programs such as this, and outstanding students like Ian, that our industry will continue to thrive. Trailcon looks forward to continuing this scholarship in the future.?

The award is presented on behalf of the Ontario Trucking Association's Education Foundation, a charitable institution devoted to furthering the education of Ontario post-secondary students.

Loyalist College trailer donation
In another charitable initiative, Trailcon donated a trailer to be used in a series of training videos for would-be truck drivers studying at Loyalist College in Belleville, ON. The videos will be produced in collaboration with the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA), marking the second time Trailcon has joined forces with that organization to produce a video highlighting the trucking industry.

The video series features OTA Driver of the Year and former Road Knight, Justin Martin, who provides driving tips to a new generation of students seeking to become professional truck drivers under the new mandatory entry-level training requirement. The videos are scheduled to come out this fall, and will be available for viewing on the OTA's website at www.ontruck.org.
