Albertsons Companies and Albertsons Companies Foundation Expand Fundraiser for California Wildfire Relief

BOISE, Idaho, Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As wildfires continue to ravage parts of California and Napa and Sonoma County Safeway stores help their neighborhoods with the relief effort, fellow stores in Albertsons Companies' western division, in partnership with Albertsons Companies Foundation, are now also supporting the California Wildfire Relief Fundraiser. Albertsons Companies stores in the western United States are raising funds to help organizations providing resources and services to people affected by the disaster. They join California Albertsons, Safeway, Vons and Pavilions stores in California, which launched the urgent fundraising effort last week.

In addition, the Albertsons Companies Foundation has pledged to match donations up to $500,000.

"Like everyone else, we're saddened by the loss of life and the expansive destruction across multiple areas, including Napa, Sonoma and Orange County," said Christy Duncan Anderson, Executive Director of the Albertsons Companies Foundation.  "Albertsons Companies has more than 600 stores in California and thousands of employees, which means we serve more than 600 communities and have a commitment to help each one, especially during times of crisis."

The funds raised at Albertsons Companies stores will support an array of charities and first-responder organizations in California, including the Orange County United Way, the Redwood Empire Food Bank, the American Red Cross, the Community Foundation Sonoma County Resilience Fund, and other organizations providing critical assistance.

Along with financial assistance, California Safeway, Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions stores have donated food and supplies to evacuation shelters and first responders on the frontlines.

The massive wildfires have killed at least 41 people and destroyed 5,700 homes, businesses and other structures, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Firefighters were still battling 12 wildfires in multiple counties as of Tuesday. The fires have burned more than 245,000 acres of land and forced nearly 34,000 residents to evacuate.
