The Union League Club Of Chicago Hosts "Salute To Vietnam Veterans" Event On Veterans Day

CHICAGO, Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Union League Club of Chicago (ULCC), in partnership with the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs and ULCC American Legion Post 758, presents a special event on Veterans Day honoring veterans of the Vietnam War at the Union League Club of Chicago (65 W. Jackson). The ULCC proudly hosts this program as an Official Commemorative Partner of the U.S. Department of Defense Vietnam War Commemoration.

ULCC's Public Affairs Committee

The Union League Club of Chicago exists to enrich the lives of its members through the Club's "commitment to community and country." Founded in 1879 and tracing its roots to the Union Leagues of America movement dedicated to helping President Lincoln defend the Union, the ULCC has a 138-year history of supporting America's Armed Forces and our nation's veterans.

"We are extremely proud to host this event. It is special to the Club with both our commitment to country, as well as personal connections to the war," said ULCC President William J. Nissen. "As a Vietnam veteran myself, it is an honor to give back to the community and demonstrate the Club's service to military groups. We hope that all local veterans of the Vietnam War who served on active duty, and their family members, will attend and receive thanks they may have not received upon return home."

The event begins with registration at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception and program. Guests will enjoy refreshments while perusing information from resource tables staffed by representatives of organizations serving veterans. The program features presentation of the official Department of Defense Vietnam War Commemorative Pin to Vietnam veterans, a performance by cadets of the West Point Glee Club, and keynote remarks by Erica Jeffries, Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs.

The "Salute to Vietnam Veterans" is open to all veterans of the Vietnam War who served on active duty from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 (regardless of the location of service) and their family members. Certificates of Honor also will be presented to surviving spouses of Vietnam veterans.

Prior registration is required. To learn more about the event or to RSVP, please visit https://vietnamvets.eventbrite.com
