SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the arrival of partners Arthur S. Beeman and Joel T. Muchmore to the firm's Litigation Group in San Francisco. Beeman and Muchmore are recognized trial lawyers who have a distinguished record of handling intellectual property, trade secret, and commercial litigation matters in Northern California and across the United States. "Art and Joel are one of the premier litigation teams in California," said Angela Styles, chair of Crowell & Moring. "They have successfully tried numerous cases to verdict, and their combined experience adds new depth and dimension to our litigation capabilities on the West Coast and nationally. We are excited to welcome Art and Joel to the firm."

Both lawyers join the firm from Arent Fox LLP. Beeman most recently served as head of Arent Fox's Complex Litigation and Intellectual Property practices in Northern California. With more than 30 years of litigation experience, he focuses on the trial and management of complex IP and commercial litigation, and has extensive experience handling matters in the telecommunications, internet, software, medical device, and construction machinery industries. Beeman has successfully represented clients over the years in numerous "bet-the-company" disputes and tried more than 30 cases to jury verdict in venues throughout the United States. Among his results as lead trial counsel, he secured a $47 million jury verdict in a patent infringement dispute for the inventor of a shock hazard protection device and an $8.5 million jury verdict for a web developer in a patent infringement and Lanham Act case.

Muchmore, a 15-year litigator, has significant experience with appellate issues, as a trial lawyer and in litigating patent infringement, licensing disputes, trademark, trade secret, copyright, unfair competition, and other complex commercial disputes. He represents clients in multiple industries, including entertainment, high-tech, software, consumer goods, the arts, and retail.

Both lawyers have represented licensees in major disputes with enterprise database licensors, including serving as counsel on behalf of Mars, Incorporated against Oracle Corporation in the only publicly filed complaint against the software giant for its audit tactics and conduct. They have also represented Grammy-award-winning musicians, Fortune 500 consumer products companies, electronics retailers, and art galleries.

"Art and Joel add significant weight to our litigation bench in California," said Jennifer Romano, co-chair of the firm's Litigation Group. "Their trial experience will be an invaluable asset for clients, particularly those in the technology and software arenas."

Before Arent Fox, Beeman was the managing partner of Dentons' Silicon Valley office and the chair of its Patent Litigation practice. "Crowell & Moring has a national reputation for offering clients the highest level of litigation," Beeman said. "The firm has a history and a demonstrated willingness to partner with clients in alternative fee arrangements and for representing plaintiffs and defendants in the courtroom. In short, the firm offers a tremendous platform to serve our clients. We are delighted to join the team and be a part of Crowell & Moring's emerging presence in California."

Beeman received his J.D. from the Northwestern University School of Law, and his B.A., magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University. Muchmore earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and his B.A. from Knox College.

Beeman and Muchmore's arrival comes on the heels of significant hires in recent months to Crowell & Moring's Litigation Group in California. In June, partners Kent B. Goss and Valerie M. Goo joined the firm's Los Angeles office from Orrick, where Goss served as head of its Los Angeles Litigation Group. Goss and Goo are recognized trial lawyers who have a distinguished record in representing clients in IP litigation, including trademark infringement, copyright infringement, patent infringement, defamation, licensing, misappropriation of trade secrets, and right of publicity claims.
