Divoti Medical ID Jewelry Complies to New FDA Requirements

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Divoti USA will engrave and process all non-coated stainless steel Medical Alert Jewelry up to the standard of the latest FDA requirements, which stipulates new criteria regarding medical device manufacture and distribution. (Launched: June 2017).

Anyone in need of Medical ID jewelry such as Medical ID Bracelets, can rest assured that Divoti Medical Alert Jewelry are engraved in terms of the new FDA requirements.

These new requirements stipulate that all UDI (Unique Device Identification) must be dark marked directly onto the metal with a YAG laser machine or diode pump, without using chemicals. (Those not complying to these new standards are considered non-FDA approved).

Although stainless steel has been used for some time for medical device manufacture such as in Medical Alert Jewelry due to its excellent resistance to corrosion, the markings are most often not as durable.

Generally, medical devices are subject to harsh sterilization processes. Furthermore, extreme acidic or alkaline conditions such as sweating can cause decomposition or the leak of hazardous chemicals, which can be absorbed through the skin, especially when typical trophy shop engraving is used.

Additionally, when this method is used for Medical ID Bracelets or Medical ID Necklaces, vital information could become illegible.

Thanks to the FDA's new UDI regulations, research has been conducted to determine the best procedures to mark Medical Alert Jewelry and to preserve important information and identifications markings. It was thus determined that laser engraving has more iron particles present than chromium. Through passivation, which removes the excess iron, the chromium particles become oxidized. This creates a corrosion resistant layer which preserves engravings.
