Puget Sound Community To Demand Better For Pancreatic Cancer Patients At PurpleStride

SEATTLE, Oct. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hundreds will participate at PurpleStride Puget Sound, the walk to end pancreatic cancer, on Oct. 29. The community event is hosted by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) Puget Sound Affiliate.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) is dedicated to fighting the world's toughest cancer. In our urgent mission to save lives, we attack pancreatic cancer on all fronts: research, clinical initiatives, patient services and advocacy. Our effort is amplified by a nationwide network of grassroots support. We are determined to improve outcomes today and to double survival by 2020. (PRNewsfoto/Pancreatic Cancer Action Network)

The five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is just 9 percent. In order to save lives and double survival by 2020, PanCAN urges the Puget Sound community to join PurpleStride. Funds raised through the event support critical research, clinical initiatives and patient services, including Know Your Tumor®, Precision PromiseSM, Clinical Trial Finder and the Patient Registry.

Sadie Rudiger attended her first PurpleStride in 2011 after her mother was diagnosed with the disease. Unfortunately, Rudiger's mother passed away later that year. However, the Kirkland, Wash. resident has remained steadfast in her commitment to helping others who have been touched by pancreatic cancer.

"PanCAN provides a community of comfort and a place to connect with others who have been through the same pain as you," Rudiger said. "We have all endured the heart-breaking effects of pancreatic cancer. I am determined to change outcomes for patients and their families so they do not have to live through this same tragedy. The single highlight of my mom's battle were the people who have provided so much hope for the future."

PurpleStride Puget Sound will take place at Magnuson Park ? Hangar 30 and will be hosted by KIRO7 anchor Monique Ming Laven. Matt's Army is the top team for this year's event and has raised more than $52,000 to date. The event is supported by national presenting sponsor Celgene; presenting sponsor Seattle Cancer Care Alliance; national gold sponsor AbbVie, gold sponsors Halozyme Inc., Virginia Mason and Swedish Cancer Institute, gold media sponsor KIRO7 and silver sponsor LEVL.
