How Radio and TV Stations Can Support Nationwide Participation in Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills


LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This next Thursday on October 19 at 10:19 a.m. (local time), Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills are being held across the country and worldwide, for International ShakeOut Day. In 2016, more than 55 million participated. ShakeOut is a one-minute earthquake drill where participants practice "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" and other aspects of their emergency plans.

With such local and global visibility, ShakeOut is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate your community leadership as a radio or tv station, while motivating your audience to get prepared to survive and recover from earthquakes.

Be Listed as Broadcasting the ShakeOut Drill Narration

Many ShakeOut participants will tune to local radio and TV stations at drill time for the "ShakeOut Drill Broadcast." This one-minute recording contains simple instructions along with earthquake sound effects. Here is how to become a ShakeOut Drill Broadcaster:

Conduct and Register Your Own Station's ShakeOut Drill

Radio and TV stations are also encouraged to hold their own drills and be counted along with the millions of other participants.
