Stone & Magnanini LLP Files Lawsuit On Behalf of Equifax Identity Theft Protection and Credit Monitoring Service Customers Over Data Breach Incident

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J., Oct. 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 7, 2017, Equifax publicly disclosed one of the largest data breach incidents in United States history, implicating the release of confidential and secure information belonging to 145 million United States consumers. Stone & Magnanini LLP, a nationally recognized boutique litigation firm, recently filed a class-action complaint against Equifax Incorporated and Equifax Information Services on behalf of all persons in the United States who entered into an agreement for services or products with, or who otherwise directly transmitted to Equifax, any of their personally identifiable information ("PII"), and whose PII was accessed without authorization in the data breach Equifax announced in September 2017.

Equifax's gross-mishandling of highly confidential personal information is causing many to worry,  but is particularly outrageous in light of the fact that our clients, and many others throughout the country, paid Equifax substantial sums of money for identity theft protection and credit monitoring services. "This case presents the ultimate irony because our clients turned over their confidential information to Equifax and paid Equifax to help protect them from identity theft," said Stone & Magnanini Managing Partner David Stone. "Now, our clients are victims of identity theft because of Equifax's failure to protect that information which was entrusted to them," continued Stone. "Equifax promised to provide a service to our clients, and they utterly failed to do so," said Robert Magnanini, who also noted that Stone & Magnanini has filed one of the only complaints in the country focused specifically on representing Equifax customers in their efforts to recover monies paid to Equifax for services they did not receive.

The plaintiffs are represented by Managing Partners David Stone and Robert Magnanini, Special Counsel Julio Gomez, and Associate Jason Kanterman.
