Over 5,000 EY Northeast professionals impact over 200 volunteer activities on annual day dedicated to giving back to local communities

NEW YORK, Oct. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Across the Americas on Friday, October 6, 2017, more than 21,000 EY professionals participated in the eighth annual "EY Connect Day," the firm's national dedicated day of service. In addition to the countless of hours and charitable donations EY professionals contribute throughout the year,  this day encourages team members to share in the firm's purpose of building a better working world by setting aside their daily responsibilities and spend the day giving back in classrooms, community centers, and other non-profit organizations.

All of the offices across the Northeast Region participated in over 200 volunteer activities, which resulted in more than 5,000 EY professionals dedicating over 30,000 hours of service to local charity organizations.

The projects were rooted in the firm's corporate responsibility focus areas of growing the positive effects of entrepreneurs, developing future generations of talent, and building a more diverse and inclusive society.

EY Connect Day included a variety of activities, from performing cleanup and restoration to collecting and organizing basic necessities for the less fortunate, to providing homes to hurricane shelter dogs. In addition to this dedicated day of service, EY professionals have and will continue to serve their communities throughout the year. Last year alone, tens of thousands of hours were donated through volunteering with local nonprofit and charity organizations.

Due to the impact these volunteer efforts make, a number of local mayors deemed October 6, 2017 as "EY Connect Day." Boston, Philadelphia, Iselin (NJ), Stamford and Washington D.C. are among those that were given mayoral proclamations.

EY Connect Day volunteers shared their experiences via social media channels using the hashtags #EYConnectDay and #BetterWorkingWorld.
