Thomas: Brockville town hall will inspire fight against privatization

BROCKVILLE, ON, Oct. 6, 2017 /CNW/ - Long wait times for health care. Sky-high hydro rates. Dangerous highways. These are just some of the consequences Brockville is suffering because of privatization. But during a special town hall meeting at the Brockville Convention Centre on Tuesday, Oct. 10, people will hear what they can do to fight back.

Who: Speakers will include Brockville City Councillor Leigh Bursey, Leeds?Grenville MPP Steve Clark, Leeds?Grenville MP Gord Brown, and OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas

"Brockville is a strong, proud community," said Warren (Smokey) Thomas, President of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and the leader of the We Own It campaign to stop privatization. "Like any community, it needs strong public services.

"Privatization weakens public services because it costs more and delivers less. When we stop privatization, Brockville will benefit."

Thomas will be joined at the town hall by local political leaders including Brockville City Councillor Leigh Bursey, Leeds?Grenville MPP Steve Clark, and Leeds?Grenville MP Gord Brown.

"Communities across Ontario, Canada, and the world are reaping real benefits by telling their politicians to stop privatizing services and stop selling public assets. Now it's Brockville's turn," said Thomas. "Let's show all our politicians that we'll fight for Brockville by fighting against privatization."
