Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group Announces Free Resources and Support for Victims of Domestic Violence
PARSIPPANY, N.J., Oct. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In New Jersey, an estimated 70,000 instances of domestic abuse are reported to police each year, with an untold number of cases left unreported. Domestic violence does not discriminate. According to current data, nearly one in three women and one in four men will experience abuse by a spouse or intimate partner.
Given these dire statistics, Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group will honor October's Domestic Violence Awareness Month by supporting local domestic violence prevention efforts and making available new legal resources to help victims obtain protection.

Free Resources
Throughout the month of October, the firm will host a series of free webinars devoted to legal rights awareness for victims. Broadcast via Facebook Live, scheduled topics include:
- How to Help a Friend Get a Temporary Restraining Order (October 6);
- Keeping DV Victims Safe: Temporary Spousal and Child Support (October 13);
- and 5 Steps to Take Before Your Final Restraining Order Hearing (October 19).
"We look forward to giving people solid legal information about the restraining order process and other legal remedies. For example, many victims don't realize that they can qualify for temporary alimony and child support...giving them money to live. This is important information to share," Weinberger notes.
In addition to making their eBook for Domestic Violence Victims, available for free during the 15-21 October Week of Action, Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group will distribute its new printable Safety Plan. The free PDF booklet helps individuals devise an emergency plan for getting help and leaving a violent or abusive situation. Included in the guide is an updated list of New Jersey domestic violence agencies and emergency contact numbers.
Community Support & Leadership
As an advocate for domestic abuse survivors, Bari Weinberger will participate in the 7th National Call of Unity, hosted by the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence. The call is an opportunity for Weinberger and other leaders to bring new strategies for abuse prevention to their local community. Follow Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group for live tweets from the event on October 4. Additionally, firm attorneys will participate in the NNEDV (National Network to End Domestic Violence) Twitter chat on October 17.
Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group will also be in attendance at domestic violence vigils taking place this month, including the Center for Hope and Safety's Paramus Vigil on October 4, and an October 6 candlelight vigil in New Brunswick organized by Women Aware, the designated domestic violence agency in Middlesex County.
Purple is the official color of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Look for purple candles to glow from the firm's office windows as a symbolic way to shine a beacon of hope for victims. Staff members will "go purple" on Purple Thursday, October 19, to further raise awareness. Weinberger Divorce & Family Law Group's Hackensack office will be collecting gently used women's professional clothing to benefit Women in Transition, an agency that helps women displaced by domestic violence to re-enter the workforce.
