/R E P E A T -- Unifor Members at Bell Canada to Begin Negotiations with Solidarity Rally/

TORONTO, Oct. 2, 2017 /CNW/ - Unifor members at the Bell Canada clerical unit will hold a solidarity rally to mark the first day of negotiations on Tuesday, October 3. Media and the public are welcome to attend.

"Unifor's message to Bell Canada is clear - it's time to put a stop to the erosion of good jobs," said Jerry Dias, Unifor National President. "Clerical jobs have been intentionally eliminated by this company over the last decade and Unifor is united to stop the attack."

"Our presence also marks our commitment, solidarity and determination to get a good contract. Rest assured that throughout the negotiation process, we will put in the effort and resources necessary to achieve these objectives," added Renaud Gagné, Unifor Québec Director.

Unifor represents nearly 5,000 Bell Canada clerical workers in Ontario and Québec. These unionized workers perform vital jobs to keep Bell Canada customers connected, including circuit design and maintenance, development of new infrastructure, and care and support for residential customers as well as small and large businesses.

Over the last decade the number of jobs in the unit has been cut in half.
