Minister Monsef launches Women's History Month - Organizations are invited to apply for new funding totalling around $15M in support of women's economic security

OTTAWA, Oct. 2, 2017 /CNW/ - By investing in women's economic security, the Government of Canada is honouring their immeasurable contributions throughout our country. That's why the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of Status of Women, kicked off Women's History Month by inviting organizations across Canada to apply for new Government funding in support of women's well-being and success.

The Minister's announcement highlighted this year's theme for Women's History Month, #ClaimYourPlace, which honours the trailblazing women of the past and present who have paved the way towards a more equal society. It is also a call to action to continue to push for greater progress to advance gender equality in Canada.

Ensuring the economic security of women is fundamental to advancing gender equality. Through Status of Women Canada's two new calls for proposals, organizations will receive funding for projects that address institutional barriers that limit women's economic security.

The first call for proposals, entitled Support for Women's Economic Security, will fund projects under two themes. The first theme, Building Partnerships to Address Systemic Barriers, invites organizations to work together to address the systemic barriers that hold women back and limit their economic security, including systemic issues as the accessibility of childcare, the wage gap, and pay inequity. The second theme, Increasing Private Sector Leadership and Investments in Women, urges organizations to work directly with partners in the private sector to implement solutions that advance women's economic security.

The second call for proposals, entitled Addressing the Economic Security and Prosperity of Indigenous Women, invites organizations to foster collaboration between Indigenous women, Indigenous organizations, their communities, and the private sector to support the economic security and prosperity of Indigenous women across Canada. These collaborations will build on the strengths of Indigenous women, identify opportunities for their economic success, and address issues that limit these opportunities.

Organizations are encouraged to visit women.gc.ca for more information.
