The Government of Canada Congratulates Daylu Dena Council on the Opening of New Housing for Elders and People with Reduced Mobility
LOWER POST, B.C., Sept. 28, 2017 /CNW/ - Our government is committed to working with First Nation governments and communities to improve housing for their members. Local, safe and appropriate housing for Elders and people with reduced mobility supports their independence, promotes better health outcomes and enables better connections with community and families.
Today the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Indigenous Services, congratulates the Daylu Dena Council on their new six-unit housing complex for Elders and citizens with reduced mobility in Lower Post, British Columbia.
The multi-plex includes three one-bedroom units and three two-bedroom units. Each individual unit has its own private entrance, kitchen, dining area, living space and bedroom(s). All six units also access a common corridor that leads to additional shared living space and kitchen area for larger family gatherings and meals.
The complex has been built to green standards and includes additional insulation, triple-pane windows, and high insulation effectiveness in the roof and walls to increase energy efficiency.
Daylu Dena Council managed the construction of the housing complex through investments in Budget 2016. The Council hired a local architectural firm to design the six-plex with the northern climate in mind and to provide more options for aging citizens to continue to live and play a vibrant role in their home community.
