Pro-Democracy Demonstrators Plan Protests against DRC President Kabila's Repressive Regime during his Speech to the UN

NEW YORK, Sept. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, September 23, at 8:30 am ET, pro-Democracy activists, including Les Congolais Debout and other organizations, will gather outside the United Nations headquarters at the Dag Hammerskjold Plaza in New York City to protest the repressive regime of Joseph Kabila, the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, before his scheduled address at the UN General Assembly at 9:00 am.

Kabila has refused to relinquish power despite the fact that the nation's constitution required him to step down in 2016 after two terms in office.  Rather than abide by the two-term limit mandated by the constitution, Kabila has unleashed a reign of terror throughout the country to assert control, including a jailing political opponents and, more than that, unleashing violence on the Congolese people, who yearn for new leadership that can bring stability, prosperity and peace to their country.

The world ? including leaders gathered at the UN on Saturday ? must be aware of the atrocities of this brutal dictator and support the Congolese people in their quest for a DRC where human rights and the principles of democracy are respected.

Information regarding pre-organized transportation from Washington, DC, Boston, MA, Portland, ME and to the protest can be found below. For any media inquiries, please contact Eddie Mintela at (207) 239-0270.
