Lon Smith Roofing Honors Army Veteran Fighting Cancer

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Continuing the successful "Roof for Vets" program, Lon Smith Roofing built a new roof today at no charge for Robert Lee Green who served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

"The Roof for Vets program is our way of giving back to those who have given us so much through their service to our country," said Lon Smith Vice President, Scott Hamilton. "We chose Mr. Green because he proudly served in the Army and he could use a new roof.  We also chose him because of the courage he is showing right now in fighting cancer."

Robert Lee Green served in the United States Army and eventually rose to the rank of Second Class Gunner (Machine Gun).  He served in the infantry from 1965 to 1967.  After his service, he returned home and has lived in Fort Worth for the last fifty years.

Mr. Green is also currently fighting inoperable cancer.

"To see the courage that this man displays in confronting cancer is an inspiration to all of us," Hamilton added.  "We are so pleased to be able to present him with a brand new roof at no charge.  He deserves it and we hope he will enjoy it."
