Woman Dies at Burr Ridge Lifetime Fitness Health Club; Body not Discovered for Two Days


CHICAGO, Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Patricia Ann Austin, 78, of Chicago, died in a bathroom stall at Lifetime Fitness Health Club (Club), 601 Burr Ridge Parkway, Burr Ridge, IL. Her body was not discovered for two days. According to the Burr Ridge Police, Austin died in a handicapped bathroom stall at the facility. Club records and the Police confirm that Austin checked into Lifetime Fitness on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at 7:03 p.m., and her car remained in the same handicap accessible parking spot near the entrance. A club patron discovered Austin's body on the evening of Friday, July 14, 2017. Subsequently, the family was notified. The Cook County Medical Examiner and Burr Ridge Police are involved in the investigation.

Anesi, Ozmon, Rodin, Novak & Kohen, Ltd., (Anesi Ozmon), has been retained by Austin's son, Terrence "Terry" Austin. Anesi Ozmon President and Managing Partner Mark Novak and Partner Brian D. The law firm filed a Petition for Discovery today in the Circuit Court of Cook County seeking maintenance records, surveillance videos, the operations manual, an inspection of the ladies' locker room, as well as other materials. 

"I am devastated to lose my mother, and cannot understand how this happened," stated Austin. "Someone should have periodically checked the locker room. My mother sat in a bathroom stall, unattended, for two days. I don't want this to happen to anyone, especially an elderly person, ever again."

"It is inconceivable that Pat Austin's body was allowed to remain in a bathroom stall for two days without being discovered," said Novak. "The Club was closed twice at night without her being found. The family is horrified and we were retained to find out exactly how this could have happened."
