Media Advisory - Tabling of the Privacy Commissioner's annual report


OTTAWA, Sept. 20, 2017 /CNW/ - The Privacy Commissioner of Canada's latest annual report is expected to be tabled in Parliament on Thursday, September 21th, 2017 at approximately 10 a.m. ET.

The annual report includes the results of the Commissioner's study on the issue of consent, including recommendations for legislative reform and other solutions to help empower Canadians to better control how their personal information is collected and used by companies in the digital age.

The 2016-17 report also highlights key public sector issues, including the findings of recent high-profile investigations, as well as reviews related to national security, including how the Security of Canada Information Sharing Act (SCISA) was implemented after coming into force in 2015.

Privacy Commissioner Daniel Therrien will hold a news conference to discuss his annual report. Journalists outside of Ottawa may participate via teleconference.
