The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada hosts 11th annual Light The Night Walk in Edmonton

EDMONTON, Sept. 20, 2017 /CNW/ - On Saturday September 23, 2017 over 1,500 participants will gather at William Hawrelak Park to take part in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada's 11th annual Light The Night Walk in Edmonton. At twilight, participants will walk in solidarity along a designated 4 Km route to bring help and hope to the more than 138,000 Canadians affected by a blood cancer.

Canadians like Edmonton resident, Luke Wawrinchuk, and his girlfriend, Taylor Girard, will be among those in attendance.

"I am a non-Hodgkins lymphoma survivor and was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma at the age of 18.  I am happy to say that I have now been cancer free for over 7 years," says Luke, this year's honoured hero for the Edmonton Walk. "I am grateful for being a part of this event and I urge others to join the fight against blood cancers!"

In 2016, over 35,000 Canadians raised $5.4 million to help fund world-class researchers working on the most promising projects in Canada to improve treatments or find cures for the various forms of blood cancers. In addition, monies raised make it possible to provide free information and support services to blood cancer patients and their caregivers.

This year's Light The Night Walk in Edmonton will feature family-friendly activities including face painting, gaming from Microsoft, and food for all registered walkers donated by Westrow Foods.
