Assisi Animal Health Helps Cat Owners Identify Pain for Happy Cat Month

PINEHURST, N.C., Sept. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Assisi Animal Health, developer of the Assisi Loop®, an effective non-pharmaceutical anti-inflammatory device (NPAID®) that works as pain relief for cats, discusses how to detect pain in your cat in honor of Happy Cat Month.

Each September marks the annual month-long celebration of Happy Cat Month. This event was created to spread the word about the health, welfare, and value of companion cats. Generally, felines will not indicate that they are experiencing pain. This behavior could be attributed to the survival mentality passed down from their jungle ancestors who, when any weakness was exposed, became prey for stronger animals.

Today's knowledgeable cat owners realize their domestic cat carries inherited traits of their jungle forefathers and have never forgotten the urge to hunt, stalk, and survive. The act of hiding pain makes it extremely difficult to detect discomfort, particularly in its early stages. Cats in pain frequently consume less water and food, possess a negative change in attitude and carry a small desire to be in the family mix. For example, a feline in discomfort may choose to spend its time under a chair observing, rather than be outgoing.

The progression of pain will often lead to more obvious signs such as lack of grooming, as a result of the displeasure provoked when bending their bodies to lick and clean. It is possible that the cat that would routinely greet you each morning is now on the floor at your feet. If you see any indication that there is a change in your cat's normal routine, consider this a potential sign for pain.

The message is BE PROACTIVE. Observe Happy Cat Month by taking your feline to the veterinarian for a routine checkup. Avoid self-prescribing any medication, as cats are extremely sensitive to drugs. If you do detect signs of pain in your feline, caution should be used when investigating. The most loving cat will bite and scratch when you examine the painful area.

When looking at options for pain control, reach out to your veterinarian and ask about a prescription for the Assisi Loop. The Assisi Loop is a take-home device that uses targeted Pulsed Electromagnetic (tPEMFtm) waves to help the healing process and is the same FDA cleared technology used in humans.
