A new scale for Pet Fair Asia

SHANGHAI, Sept. 14, 2017 /CNW/ -- The 20th Pet Fair Asia took place at Shanghai New International Expo Center on 24-27 August 2017. With 8 halls (100,000sqm) and 950 exhibitors, the exhibition reached a new threshold of exposure in the fast growing market, allowing professionals access to the widest representation of pet supplies in Asia.

At Pet Fair Asia 2017

33,275 trade visitors attended the show (+24.05%/2016), including 3,864 from overseas (+11.29%). 81.7% of them declared attending for purchasing purposes and 95.8% to learn about new products. Strong interest was shown in all represented exhibits: upstream suppliers, manufacturers, brands, distributors, service providers and e-commerce platforms. The extended supply chain coverage at Pet Fair Asia allowed unprecedented vertical business interactions, from raw materials and machinery down to end-users.

International brands were omnipresent on site, at their distributor stands and through standalone corporate booths or national pavilions. The size of China and fierce competition make it necessary for brands to find additional regional distributors while being able to communicate directly with growing numbers of international visitors. Adding to Asian buyers already well represented at the show (South-Korea, JapanThailand, Malaysia, Indonesia), this edition witnessed a rapid increase of visitors from emerging markets, in particular from Vietnam, Philippines, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

On the domestic side, Chinese companies have rapidly grown to a new level in terms of branding and geographic business outreach. 77.6% exhibitors declared doing business both in China and overseas, 13.2% exclusively outbound and 9.2% locally. Traditional exporters continue to transform their business model towards domestic sales, with multiple new brands on display supported by outstanding marketing budget - up to EUR500,000 was spent in 4 days by the newly launched "Frog Brand".

Numerous events took place along the show: 7th International Pet Industry Summit, 6th Petfood Forum China, 4th Annual Meeting for Pet Hospital Management, 10th Shanghai Veterinary Conference and 2nd Seminar on pet and aquarium retail convergence. The busy show floor was filled with activities: live TV shows, dog/cat shows and tournaments.

In 2018, Pet Fair Asia will be co-located with Aquarama, the international exhibition for aquarium and terrarium supplies, ornamental fish and reptiles, garden and pond products. The two events will gather 1400 exhibitors in a world-record 125,000sqm space (10 halls), with 40,000 professionals and 110,000 consumers expected.
