Civic Action Network Launches Civi, a Service That Calls Congress on Your Behalf

ALBANY, N.Y., Sept. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Civic Action Network (CAN), a non-partisan civic engagement company, announced today the launch of its newest service that will call Congress on your behalf: Civi.

CAN summarizes three bills introduced in Congress per week. Members can either receive emails with these summaries or find them on CAN's website. Once they form an opinion on an issue, members can submit their stance to Civi by favoring or opposing the bill. The service will then provide this information to a real person who will relentlessly call Congress on the members' behalf until the message has been conveyed. Members will be notified once their call has been successfully delivered to Congress.

"The conception of Civic Action Network and the Civi service stemmed from being too busy myself to set aside enough time to call my representatives on several issues," said Luis Alejandro Vega, co-founder of CAN. "It's our civic duty as citizens and residents of this country to voice our opinions. Our voices shouldn't go unheard because of busy schedules."

Since its soft launch in May 2017, CAN has summarized more than 100 pieces of legislation, and Civi has made calls in 44 states, contacting more than 280 members of Congress.

"Think of Civi as your own personal assistant and direct line to Congress," Vega said. "We are going to measure success in terms of retention and how many constituents make civic engagement a habit rather than a one-time thing."

CAN offers the first five calls at no charge. Beyond that, interested individuals can sign up for CAN's premium service, which is divided into three tiers: six calls per month for $4.99, 13 calls per month for $9.99, or 21 calls per month for $14.99. All summarized bills can be found in the CAN library for free.

Spanish speakers will soon be able to participate as CAN is currently developing a Spanish version, which will be available by the end of the year.
