KWE! Meet with Indigenous Peoples: A unique event to learn more about the First Nations and Inuit in Quebec


QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 29, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Dr. Stanley Vollant, Spokesperson for KWE! Meet with Indigenous Peoples, Konrad Sioui, Grand Chief of the Huron-Wendat Nation, and Ghislain Picard, Chief for the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador, met with the media today to brief them on this unique and unifying event. From September 1 to 3, the public is invited to the Place de l'Assemblée-Nationale in Quebec City (directly in front of the fontaine de Tourny) to learn more about the 11 Indigenous nations in Quebec.

The program includes a lot of activities throughout the weekend, such as workshops on traditional knowledge, tastings of culinary specialities, discussions to learn more about issues affecting Indigenous communities, and much more. The public will have the opportunity to attend performances by exceptionally talented artists, including Elisapie, KXO, Shauit, Matiu, David Hart, Melissa Girvan, Troupe Sandokwa and Barbara Diabo with the Buffalo Hat Singers. The weekend will culminate with an amazing performance by Loco Locass with Natasha Kanapé Fontaine and Shauit. Admission is free.

KWE! Meet with Indigenous Peoples is a joint production of the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador, the Council of the Huron?Wendat Nation (the event's host nation) and Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada.

Several other partners have helped make this event possible, such as the Government of Quebec, the City of Quebec, the Commission de la capitale nationale du Québec, Québec Aboriginal Tourism, the Wapikoni mobile, the Cercle Kisis, the Cree Women of Eeyou Istchee Association and the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse.
