La Malbaie families will benefit from improved community spaces that support a better quality of life

Government of Canada invests nearly $53,000 in this community project

LA MALBAIE, QC, Aug. 27, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

As a result of an investment of $52,750 by the Government of Canada, La Malbaie families will benefit from upgraded spaces where they can enjoy the outdoors, learn about their region's natural environment and engage in physical activity.

This funding was announced today by the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED.

The funding will enable the Centre écologique de Port-au-Saumon to optimize their marine organism interpretive site, mainly by building a pavilion, upgrading the access road, constructing new basins and an access ramp, and completing plumbing and electrical work.

Founded in 1968, the Centre écologique de Port-au-Saumon (CEPAS) is an NPO whose mission is to promote knowledge of natural science and respect for the natural environment among both young people and members of the general public who are interested in the environment.

CEPAS is recognized by UNESCO as the core of the Charlevoix World Biosphere Reserve. Saguenay?St. Lawrence Marine Park officials also consider it to be a discovery site.

This investment was made through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), a $300M fund set up to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary by investing in community spaces that bring Canadians together.
