Bloomberg Government Releases 2017 BGOV200
WASHINGTON, Aug. 23, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bloomberg Government today announced the release of the 2017 BGOV200 report. The 6th annual BGOV200 study ranks the top 200 federal government contractors by value of prime, unclassified contracts awarded by U.S. government agencies in fiscal 2016. The report analyzes the top contracts at 24 agencies and in 27 different purchasing categories and explores how contractors have responded and performed over the past year. The top 3 spots are once again occupied by Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics and Boeing. Among the most notable gainers, Leidos moved 9 spots from 19 to 10 with its acquisition of Lockheed Martin's Information and Global Solutions business.
"This year, top federal contractors have seen an increase in contracts, while budget pressures, contract consolidation and mergers and acquisitions activity has continued. We anticipate spending in some categories, such as information technology -- which increased from $63.8 billion in fiscal 2015 to $68.9 billion in fiscal 2016 ? to continue its accelerated pace of spending," said Donald Thomas, vice president and general manager Government Contracting at Bloomberg Government.
Total contract spending rebounded in fiscal 2016 to $477.7 billion, an 8 percent increase from $441.6 billion in fiscal 2015. Several factors contributed to landscape changes in fiscal 2016, including upticks in spending for categories including aircraft (+$10 billion), facility-related services (+$6 billion), technology (+$5 billion).
The BGOV200 report found:
- Total contract spending in fiscal 2016 was $477.8 billion, an 8 percent increase from $441.6 billion in fiscal 2015. The share of total government obligations won by the top 200 was 63 percent, or $302 billion.
- The top 20 companies make up about 37 percent, or $175 billion, of the $447.8 overall government share.
- Overall, 122 companies improved their ranking in fiscal 2016, while 64 companies did worse compared to fiscal 2015.
- 14 companies, including those ranked No. 1 through No. 6, remained the same as last year, while 31 companies joined the BGOV200 list this year.
