The Ongoing MRSA Epidemic Continues to be Ignored

CHICAGO, Aug. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a current and dangerous global public health crisis. "The ongoing MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphyloccocus aureus) epidemic is fueling antibiotic resistance globally and MRSA infections are rampant in U.S. healthcare facilities," states Jeanine Thomas, founder of MRSA Survivors Network.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are only tracking invasive MRSA infections (which does not include surgical site) and the true number of MRSA infections are vastly being under- reported. Healthcare-acquired MRSA infections are a preventable medical error and have cost untold deaths and needless pain and suffering. Northern European countries have controlled MRSA to low numbers by screening patients for decades, yet the CDC does not recommend routine screening. Why ? when over 300 evidence-based studies recommend screening for MRSA? The Veterans Health Administration has been screening their patients for MRSA since 2007 in their 150 facilities and reduced infections by over 80%.

9th Annual World MRSA Day Kickoff Event & Global C. difficile Summit
The annual awareness event will be held September 30, 2017 at the Community House in Hinsdale, Illinois from 10:30am ? 12:30pm with Dr. William R. Jarvis (formerly with the CDC) as Keynote Speaker, Mr. Rob Stafford of NBC5 Chicago emceeing along with leading experts presenting and survivors sharing their personal stories. Lynn and Nancy Utesch of Kewaunee CARES will share their knowledge about LA-MRSA (livestock-acquired MRSA) and environmental contamination. The event is uplifting and informative with a Q & A session for the audience. Bring the entire family - admission and parking are free. World MRSA Day is October 2 and World MRSA Awareness Month is October.
