Deloitte Foundation and American Accounting Association Announce 2017 Cook Prize Award, Wildman Medal and American Taxation Association Teaching Innovation Award Winners


STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Deloitte Foundation is proud to sponsor the Cook Prize Award, Wildman Medal and American Taxation Association Teaching Innovation Award in support of excellence in teaching and research. These awards were presented at the American Accounting Association ("AAA") Annual Meeting held Aug. 5-9 in San Diego, California.

Professors Edmund Outslay (Michigan State University), Susan M. Curtis (University of Illinois), and Cathy J. Scott (Navarro College) received the 2017 American Accounting Association/J. Michael and Mary Anne Cook/Deloitte Foundation Prize. The award recognizes up to three professors annually, one each in the categories of graduate, undergraduate and two-year accounting degree programs. Award recipients must consistently demonstrate the attributes of a superior teacher in the discipline of accounting. Edmund Outslay, Susan M. Curtis and Cathy J. Scott are the recipients of the graduate, undergraduate and two-year college awards, respectively. Each prize consists of a $25,000 cash award, a silver medallion, and a certificate.

Professors Dan Amiram (Columbia University), Zahn Bozanic (The Ohio State University) and Ethan Rouen (Columbia University) received the 2017 Wildman Medal in recognition for their research paper entitled, "Financial Statement Errors: Evidence from the Distributional Properties of Financial Statement Numbers." The Wildman Medal is named in honor of the late John R. Wildman, a partner of a Deloitte predecessor firm, a professor of accounting at New York University and the first president of the American Association of Accounting Instructors, which later became the AAA. In addition to receiving the Wildman Medal, which recognizes excellence in practical research, each academic recipient received a $2,500 honorarium.

Professors Kerry Inger (Auburn University), Mollie Adams (Bradley University) and Michele Meckfessel (University of Missouri - St. Louis) received this year's American Taxation Association (ATA) Teaching Innovation Award for their tax research case. Established in 1994, the ATA Teaching Innovation Award is presented annually to tax professors whose innovative teaching techniques encourage critical thinking and enhance the overall learning experience. The winners received a $2,500 award.
